Data Protection Provisions

The news portal webnews.com (hereinafter referred to as "WEBNEWS Service") is operated by lokalisten media GmbH, Klenzestrasse 38, 80469 Munich (hereinafter referred to as "WEBNEWS").

A. General Data Protection Provisions

Please note that the Special Data Protection Provisions apply as a supplement to the General Data Protection Provisions if you create a user account within the scope of the WEBNEWS Service and consent to the Special Data Protection Provisions. For WEBNEWS, your trust in the proper handling of your data is an important prerequisite for the success of the WEBNEWS Service. Therefore, WEBNEWS places great importance on data protection. The collection, processing (comprising storage, modification, transmission, blocking, and deletion), and use of your data occurs exclusively in compliance with the applicable data protection provisions. The principles for collection, processing, and use of your data are presented to you in the following.

1. Collection, Processing, and Use of Person-Related Data

Person-related data involves information on the identity of a person, such as the name, address, date of birth, or e-mail address.

1.1. Upon general use of the WEBNEWS Service (visiting the website)

In principle, general passive use of the news portal does not result in any person-related data being collected from you, processed, and/or used.

1.2. Upon active use of the WEBNEWS Service (creating a user profile). If you would like to actively use the WEBNEWS Service, you can create a personal user profile. A personal user profile makes it possible for you to publish your own content in conjunction with the WEBNEWS Service. This requires registration with the WEBNEWS Service. Upon registration, the data provided by you at the time of registration and any data supplemented later will be collected, processed, and/or used following your express consent thereto (see the Special Data Protection Provisions).

1.3. Upon use of another type of service from the WEBNEWS Service

If you make use of another type of service from the WEBNEWS Service, person-related data may be collected. If so, you will be notified thereof. In the spirit of data economy, the collected data will be collected and used insofar as necessary for providing the desired service. In the following, you will find some examples of how WEBNEWS collects, processes, and uses person-related data:

Contests

If you decide to participate in a contest that we are running, WEBNEWS will ask you to provide such things as your name and your date of birth, your e-mail address, your telephone number, and/or your postal address. This collection and processing particularly serves the purpose of making it possible for WEBNEWS to inform you if you win a prize, and to rule out multiple entries in the contest.

Ordering Offers/Information (e.g., by newsletter)

In conjunction with the WEBNEWS Service, WEBNEWS offers the possibility at various locations to allow you to be informed of interesting offers and news through the many and various channels of WEBNEWS. In order to perform this WEBNEWS Service, the individually necessary data are requested and then processed and used solely for the purposes indicated in the inquiry. You can cancel this newsletter at any time.

Personalized Services

If you should make use of additional specific WEBNEWS Services that require specific registration, WEBNEWS will collect, process, and use the data from you that is necessary for these WEBNEWS Services particularly in order to provide you with these services.

2. Collection, Processing, and Use of Usage Data

Usage data involves data that you do not actively make available; instead, it can be collected passively while you explore a website, for instance. When you visit our WEBNEWS Service, WEBNEWS saves the domain name or IP address of the requesting computer, the file request from the client (file name and URL), the http answer code, the Internet page from which you visit us, and the data and length of your visit, for a period of up to four (4) weeks. This storage occurs in order to diagnose malfunctions or abuse of the WEBNEWS Service and our telecommunications services/systems, insofar it is necessary to establish additional connections and/or for billing purposes. In case of the aforementioned malfunctions or any abuse, WEBNEWS retains the right to file a complaint with the criminal prosecution agencies.

3. Use of Cookies

What are cookies?

A cookie is a small text file that is sent by WWW servers when a web page is visited, and that is stored temporarily on the hard disk of the individual user. If the corresponding server is called again, the user's browser sends the cookie that was received back to the server. The server can then analyze the information received using this procedure in various ways. For instance, cookies can be used to manage advertising placement or make navigation on a web page easier.

How does WEBNEWS use cookies?

When a user visits a page of the WEBNEWS Service, cookies are sent to the user's browser and stored on the user's hard disk. These cookies are used to make the WEBNEWS Service more user-friendly, effective, and secure. The cookies do not contain any person-related data or no person-related data whatsoever about you, so that it is not possible for us to personally identify you using the information obtained using the cookies. The information obtained exclusively serves the purpose of developing statistics on the use of the WEBNEWS Service. In this way, WEBNEWS can adapt the WEBNEWS Service to your wishes to the greatest possible degree and make the use of the WEBNEWS Service as comfortable as possible for you. If you were to activate auto-login, the corresponding page of the WEBNEWS Service would likewise set a cookie for you. This cookie stores your registration data, so that you are recognized when you use the WEBNEWS Service again and no longer have to log in. You can deactivate auto-login again at any time after you have switched it on. If you would prefer not to use the advantages of cookies, the WEBNEWS Service can of course also be used without cookies. Every WWW browser can be set so that cookies are rejected in general (for more information, please click here). If you set your browser accordingly, it is possible that you may no longer be able to completely use all services and/or functions of our online offer. If you would like to again permit setting of cookies, then please click here.

How do third parties employ cookies and what are called "web beacons" on WEBNEWS?

The WEBNEWS Service uses Google Analytics, a web analysis service from Google Inc. ("Google"). Google Analytics also uses cookies for analysis purposes. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this website (included your abbreviated IP address) is transferred to a server belonging to Google in the U.S. and stored there. Google will use this information to analyze your use of the website, to compile reports on website activities for the website operator, and to provide additional services related to website usage and Internet usage. Google may also transfer this information to third parties insofar as this is required by law or insofar as third parties process this data on behalf of Google. In no case will Google link your IP address with other data from Google. You can prevent the installation of the cookies using a corresponding setting in your browser software; however, we must point out that in this case you may not be able to use all of the functions of this website to their full extent. By using this website, you indicate your consent to the processing of the data collected about you by Google in the manner described above and for the purpose stated above. The WEBNEWS Service uses Google AdSense, a web service from Google, that is used to place advertising messages ("Advertisements") from third parties on our online offer. We would therefore like to inform you that in the context of these Advertisements, Google can place and read cookies on your browsers, and also use what are called "web beacons" (small invisible graphic files) to collect information. The information generated by the cookies and/or web beacons are transferred to a server belonging to Google in the U.S. and processed there. The use of what are called DoubleClick DART cookies makes it possible for Google to use information about your visits to our online offer and other websites in such a way that Advertisements are placed that interest you (interest-related advertising). You can deactivate the use of the DoubleClick DART cookie on the Google website (www.google.de) by opening the category Werbung und Datenschutz (Advertising and Data Protection) in the Google "Data Protection Center" (Datenschutz-Center) and following the instructions for deactivation there. The WEBNEWS Service uses cookies from media agencies that serve to analyze the use of online advertising and to present you with special advertising in our online offer that interests you based on your preferences. In addition, the intent is to make it possible for the media agencies to address the target group of their advertisers as precisely as possible and without large scatter losses. For this purpose, anonymous user statistics are prepared, for instance, and the data is used for market research purposes. No conclusions about a person are possible. You can deactivate the use of these cookies on the website of the participating media agencies by following the instructions for deactivation found there. You can also prevent the placement of third-party cookies (e.g., Google cookies, media agency cookies) using a corresponding setting in your WWW browser (for more information, please click here). If you set your browser accordingly, it is possible that you may no longer be able to completely use all services and/or functions of our online offer.

  • • Another legal obligation to release data occurs, for instance based on a court order or an order from a government agency.

5. Changing Your Data

We make every effort to store your person-related data correctly. However, you can change (i.e., update, correct, and/or supplement) or delete your data at any time in the profile section of the WEBNEWS Service. If problems or questions arise in this connection, please send an e-mail to service[at]webnews.de.

6. Revocation Option

We will immediately comply with your wishes. You can also contact us at that address if you wish to revoke your consent to the collection, processing, and use of your data in the future. In that case, we will delete all stored data about you without undue delay. Please keep in mind that there may be an overlap between your revocation and the use of your data for technical or organizational reasons.

7. No Liability for Web Pages of Partners or Third Parties

References may be made on the WEBNEWS Service to various cooperating partners who themselves offer services or information on their websites. The partner is solely responsible for these websites. WEBNEWS asks that you inform yourself there about their individual data protection practices. In the context of the WEBNEWS Service, links may exist to other pages. The third party is solely responsible for these websites and WEBNEWS asks that you inform yourself about the data protection practices of those websites.
